Becoming Helen Keller
Becoming Helen Keller is a powerful documentary that re-examines the life and legacy of Helen Keller beyond the widely known narrative. Airing on PBS in October 2021 in honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the film delves into Keller’s lifelong activism for disability rights, gender equality, labor reform, and social justice. Narrated by Rebecca Alexander, with performances by Cherry Jones and ASL interpretation by Alexandria Wailes and Warren “WAWA” Snipe, the documentary brings Keller’s voice and advocacy to life through rare archival footage, photographs, and expert interviews. Under Murphy’s production, the film also sets a high standard for accessibility, offering versions with audio description, closed captions, and ASL, as well as a fully accessible digital experience.
